Warwickshire Seniors vs Worcestershire Seniors match at The Welcombe Golf Club, Tuesday 11th July 2023
The team selected to play for Warwickshire was:
Simon Timmins/Karl Smith
Shaun Young/Nev Gardner
Dylan Ward/Andy Sheard
Roger Neale/Ken Spencer
Roger Parfitt/Kevin Henderson
Tim Cooley/Phil Roberts
This was our 3rd league game (of four) and second home match of the season. The team all headed and arrived safely in Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford, the hills above the river Avon awaited us at The Welcombe Golf Club.
We had a good start in the morning foursomes with the top match Simon and Karl managed to half, Nev and Shaun recording a heathy 3&2 win, with Ken and I, along with new pairing Tim and Phil also recording wins, we went into lunch with a 3.5 - 2.5 lead.
After lunch of sandwiches and chips the fourball games got underway, with everyone checking the weather forecast and expecting thunderstorms, we all breathed a sigh of relief as we watched the heavy rain clouds pass by and over the hills.
The top order performed magnificently with the first four games all winning, Simon and Karl completing a 4&3 win.
We completed a 11.5 - 6.5 win against Worcestershire, a side who we have historically found difficult to beat.
A big thanks to the Warwickshire Seniors side, for giving up your time to represent the county and performing to a high level.
Congratulation to both Roger Parfitt and Phil Roberts on making your county debuts and welcome into the side.
There will be a few aching old bodies this morning, after Leek and now The Welcombe, Brownie can we please have some less hilly courses next year!
Thanks to The Welcombe for hosting us and providing good food at both lunch and dinner.
Thank you to Andrew Carman, John Hathaway for your support on the course and finally to Mark Reynolds for your superb starting skills and support throughout the day.
Roger Neale
Seniors Captain
