The Warwickshire Seniors headed to Sutton Coldfield and Moor Hall Golf Club for our end of year event, The Dick Squires Trophy.
After torrential rain on the previous Friday, Moor Hall had been partially closed over the weekend and having walked the dogs on Saturday and viewed the flood waters where the river Avon had burst its banks, I was doubtful whether the event would take place.
On Monday we got the good news from Moor Halls' Cam Clark that we would be able to play & use our electric trolleys.
The course was in remarkably good condition, very playable with no standing water anywhere. The ground been soft proved to be an advantage to Handsworth's big hitting Karl Smith
The Winner of the Dick Squires Trophy - Karl Smith, with a score of 74
Best Nett score - Alan Saul, with a fantastic score of 68. Won on back 9 from Geoff Tatton
Best Front 9 - Roger Neale
Best Back 9 - John Clifford
Nearest the Flag winners - Dave Calvert, Dylan Ward, Nev Gardner and Pete Gordon
My thanks go to Moor Hall Golf Club, the bar and catering department for the warm welcome extended to all the seniors and the delicious soup and sandwiches, to Dave Mason and Cam Clark in helping host and organise the day.
To Deb Reynolds for her fantastic organisation, help and support throughout the day.
Finally, the most important thank you to all the participants, it was an enjoyable day all round and a great way to finish the season off.
