The Rene Greey Trophy was played at Ladbrook Park Golf Club on Monday 7th October where 62 past Lady Captains from 18 Warwickshire golf clubs competed in a stableford foursome format for the Rene Greey Trophy. The rain from the previous day had finally stopped and the ladies were treated to some welcome Autumn sunshine.
Ladbrook Park is always a popular venue for any WLCGA competition and the volunteers proved as helpful and supportive as usual. I would like to thank the Lady Captain, Alison Heath, for her help on the day and to the Office staff who did all the organisation prior to the event and made sure everything ran smoothly. Mr Captain, Steve Smith, was the starter, and did an amazing job for over 2 hours so thank you for that. Thanks, too, to the Pro shop with their help in flying the WLCGA flag and setting up other banners.
An amazing £253 was raised for the WLCGA Junior Girls through the hard work of Anne, Maggie and Janet with the ball sweep. Thank you, Ladies, for your generosity.
There were many comments on how well the course was playing after the poor conditions over the days before so many thanks to the Greens Staff for their preparation. Many thanks to Alastair Scott, the referee for the day.
The competition was followed by a 2 course meal provided by the bar and kitchen staff.
In third place with 35 points on countback were Debbie Naylor and Val Orton from Harborne.
In second place with 36 points from Nuneaton were Jane Barnett and Karen Hockey.
And the winners, with a fabulous 43 points, were Nicola Woodhouse and Kathy Goddard from The Warwickshire.
The prizes were presented by Elizabeth Earnshaw, the website manager from the WLCGA and a member of Ladbrook Park for 50 years.
