County Boys Get Together
Stonebridge Golf Club
Warwickshire U18s were due to have a fixture against Notts U18s on Sunday 20th October but unfortunately this was cancelled. The young bears took full advantage with boys from the under 14s, U16s and a few U18s.
The lads arrived at the golf club and tucked into their bacon sandwiches, after this young Bradley Cleaver of Olton golf club was presented with his Warwickshire kit and then I announced the teams and the format for the front and back 9.
Front 9 would be a four-man Texas scramble with each lad having to get two tee shots on the card and back 9 would be an AM-AM. We had five 4 balls with the lads and then a dream team was added at the back of the field, Steven Frearson (Head of Boys Golf), Dave Bell (Under 14 Team Manager, Rich Lee (Under 16 Team Manager) and our secret weapon Graham Barton (Boys ambassador)
An incredible fact on the day, the age difference between the youngest player on the day and the oldest was 69 years!!!!!!
As we all arrived at the first tee the heavens opened, the rain was coming in horizontal, perfect weather for ducks, this didn't deter the lads as they were all in good spirits and enjoying themselves, luckily the rain stopped after an hour or so and the sun broke through.
Once the lads had finished it was back into the clubhouse for burger and chips and the results presentation.
Now I don't want to brag but it was the Warwickshire officials who came out on top with a gross 5 under par nett 7 under, some may say we lead by example.
The best of the boys in the Texas scramble with a score of -6 winning on the back 3 was Will Pagett, Oscar Gill, Stanley Carter and Jimmy Murray
The best of the boys in the Am-Am was Ben Storer, Harper Reay, Harvey Westall and Logan Sutton
And the team with the best combined over the two 9s were Jake Frearson, Jacob Bell, Harry Wheeler and Ethan Lee
Overall, a very enjoyable day and a great day for team Warwickshire.
