Warwickshire Seniors vs Nottinghamshire Seniors at Coventry Golf Club on 29th August 2024

Our final non-league game of the season was against Nottinghamshire at Coventry Golf Club. We all arrived safely at the club knowing we were in for a tough game because Notts had been crowned East Midland Champions and were using this match as their warn up to the East vs West play-off final which was to be played the following week.
As we expected the game was extremely tight, with both sides winning 3 matches each in the morning the match was finely balanced at 3-3 points at lunchtime.
The afternoon proved to be a different story: The two Coventry members in our side, Andrew Carman match 1 and Russ Barker match 2 lead the way and registered fine wins. Warwickshire's experienced pairing of Chairman Mark Reynolds and Pete Gordon were out in trap 3 and produced solid golf to add a win to their morning success. With the first 5 matches all going Warwickshire's way and the final game finishing all square we managed to win the afternoon 11-1.
We won the game 14-4 which was a tremendous performance against a very strong Nottinghamshire side.
My thanks go to Coventry Golf Club for the hospitality extended to both sides; the food all day was delicious, the course was in good condition and thoroughly enjoyable to play.
