RENE GREEY TROPHY COMPETITION EVENTUALLY GETS STARTED!

Monday 6th October had the final competition of the year scheduled at Robin Hood Golf Club, with a Start time of 9.30 a.m. When the Competition Organiser, Caroline Lassen arrived, the rain was absolutely horrendous and disussions were held with
the Head Greenkeeper to see if play could get started. After some time it was decided to go ahead with Holes 1 to 8, plus 17 and 18 (10 in total) but to delay the start time by one hour to 10.30 a.m. by which time the rain had eased slightly and the greens had been swished for play.
Whereas the fairways were extremely wet and for the first time for many months the balls were not rolling very far upon hitting the ground, the greens remained very fast, surprising many of the players. The Rene Greey Trophy is played in Foursomes format with all players having been past Lady Captains of Warwickshire Clubs. All players turned up and played in the competition but their rounds were hit with further rain during the morning and afternoon. The starter from Robin Hood GC was at the first tee to start all players and he arrived back to the clubhouse absolutely soaked, but having done a splendid job. County Captain, Karen Hearn thanked him along with the Lady Captain of Robin Hood and other helpers, for making such an enjoyable event, in spite of the challenges.
