PAT HALE IS 2023 VET'S CHAMPION
Coventry Golf Club was the venue for this the Warwickshire Vet's Championship, held on Monday 26th June 2023. The sun shone and with a little breeze it was somewhat more pleasant for golf than in previous days. Coventry Greens department had prepared the course splendidly and with fairways fast running, bunkers looking pristine and greens quite fast, it looked like there would be some excellent scores being posted.
As is usual, the players went out in Handicap order, mostly in threes (we did have acouple of late withdrawals) and everyone had a very enjoyable day out there with many compliments about the course. Maggie Bourton, who was standing in for Coventry Lady Captain was our starter for the day and she welcomed us all, encouraging us on the first tee. Post golf, back in the clubhouse there were the usual comments about greens being too fast and difficult to read, bunkers difficult to get out of or the rough was too long!! - any excuse for the odd shot being added to our scores but most of all we enjoyed our time at Coventry GC.
The Competition, being the first of the year for the Vets (Better Ball in April was cancelled) was extremely well organised prior to the day by Lesley Kiener and also along with her team on the day.
There were a few stalwarts remaining in the clubhouse when the Prize Presentastion took place after a belated welcome to Coventry from Maggie Bourton who had returned after her stint as starter. Vet's President Sue Timberlake responded by thanking Coventry for the use of the course and their wonderful hospitality, also thanking Lesley and her team for all of their hard work and efficiency.
