Pairings and match summary

Byron and Hugo led us out in a hard fought game with neither pairing giving anything away! Warwickshire 1 up at the turn, pegged back to all square as they stood on the 18th tee box. Byron hit a great shot on to the 190 yard par 3 green, for Staffs in true match play style to roll in a 40ft putt from off the green, winning the match 1up!

Harry and Harper likewise found themselves in a tight game! 1up after 10, before Staffordshire turned the match around, 1 up playing 17 and holing a crucial putt to close the match out 2&1.

Archie and Isaac played well but found themselves facing a run of pars and net birdies losing out 5&4. As did Jacob and Seb, playing a strong combined pairing of a low and high handicap, they were 3 down after 4 and despite battling hard, they couldn't recover the deficit.

The 4th and 6th matches both went down the last! Sam and Stanley 2 down at the turn. They refused to lose, winning holes 16 & 17 with a chance to win the last, only for the putt to slip by and halve the match. Theo and Arran combined well! They arguably deserved the win with a chance on 17 for the match which lipped out and the Staffs lads dug deap, winning 17 and 18 to halve the match.

Match was lost 5 to 1, but 4 matches could have gone either way and with a largely new squad they all battled hard to the end, with experience to draw on in the future.

As always, thank you to the parents for their support and a special call out to Fran Hemmings for supplying much needed additional cold drinks, snacks and ice creams at the turn! It was hot out there!

Additionally, thank you to John Breslin and all those Copsewood members who supported on the day. A well presented course and enjoyable meal afterwards.
