Warwickshire Boy's Under 14 and Under 12 Championships - Tournament Report
North Warwickshire Golf Club - 28th May 2024
The first major of 2024 saw Warwickshires finest under 14 boys tackle a North Warwickshire golf course in exceptional condition for the weather we have been having over the winter. North Warwickshire golf club is renowned for its fantastic drainage and playability all year round and this was a useful asset as the boys were greeted by heavy rain at the start of the day.
With conditions extremely tough all the boys battled to a finish and for the first time in as long as I can remember there was a four-way sudden death playoff for the title. From Moor Hall, Byron Clements and Harry Walton would both sign for a gross 87 on the day, as would Theo Clegg and Thomas Dodsworth from Stratford on Avon.
The four boys would head off on a sudden death playoff and it would only take the first hole to decide the outcome of this years Championship. Byron Clements with a solid Par 4 would clinch this year's Championship, winning both the Under 14s and the Under 12s titles.
In the Under 12s championship Harper Reay from Atherstone would secure the runner up prize with his gross 91.
In the handicap competition, Sam Dane from Copt Heath would leave the field in his wake, breaking 100 for the first time in competition, his score of 55 nett would comfortably take first place.
William Hardy from Maxstoke Park would play fantastic golf in the conditions and secure the under 12s nett prize with a net 65. Harvey Westall from Copt Heath would secure the 2nd overall net prize with a 66.
A massive thank you to North Warwickshire Golf Club for hosting this event and to the entire greens team who presented the course in immaculate condition for the players.
