Warwickshire Seniors vs Staffordshire Seniors at Kenilworth Golf Club on 30th May 2024

This was our second league game of the season, our first at home and played at Kenilworth Golf Club.
We had Kenilworth' members, Warren Bladon and Ian Stranks playing and we were looking to make the most of their local knowledge. Warren, fresh from his fantastic win at Coventry GC in the Finham Bowl at the weekend and Ian making his Seniors debut at his home course.
The morning Foursomes matches were all tight but we managed to win 4 games and lead 4-2 at lunch.
After lunch of sandwiches and chips the afternoon Fourball games got underway. After the front 9 holes the Warwickshire middle/lower order pairings had all built commanding leads.
The second match, Shaun/Warren was a tight game with Shaun managing “to slam the door shut†on their opponents by chipping in on the 18th to maintain the 1 up lead and seal the win. The remaining games were all won handsomely by Warwickshire to completed a comprehensive 14-4 win.
Special mention for Lanny Watkins and Ian Stranks for winning their first points for the Seniors, both of whom I am sure will go on to win many more.
Thanks to Kenilworth Golf club for hosting us, the food all day was delicious and the welcome extended to us was very much appreciated.
