The second league match of the season was in sight and the weather was treating us well.
Into the morning foursomes first off was Rich and Paul. With most of the team having never played the course before it was always going to be a tough morning. Never out of the match but finding it hard to get in front the first points would go to Worcester with a 2/1 victory. Second out George and Mike, it would be a similar match as the course layout was causing some issues. Again having hit the ball nicely they too would be unable to find the secret formula and it was another point to Worcester with a 4/2 victory. Moor Hall pairing of Jack and Will was next, having been ahead early they tried but couldn't hold on and eventually with a brilliant par on the last halved the match. First half point to the bears. Fourth match was the two young guns Spencer and Channon. Having been down and fighting back a couple of times they ran out of steam and it was a 4/2 Worcester win In the final match pairing Lee and Matt we desperately needed a point. An a point they delivered with a brilliant hard fought 1up win.
At lunch the bears are 3.5/1.5 down. Could we turn it around.
It would be the toughest of starts to the singles needed a fast start as the results came through 9 holes it wasn't looking good. The first 7 matches were down. We needed a fast turn around to pull off a miracle. This would not be the case. Worcester won the first 7 singles points to secure an early victory. A brilliant 4/3 victory for Lee, a well battled half from Spencer and a tight 1 up win for Matt gave us out first points of the singles.
A 11/4 win for Worcester. Not the result I anticipated but home advantage was huge on the day.
Onto the next game to set the record straight. Thanks goes to Worcester GCC for their hospitality and for preparing the course. Cheers to Nev for keeping me company.
