With the winter being the wettest on record and all the other friendlies being cancelled it was nice to get the season underway. The weather overnight had been kind to us and the golf course was in a very playable condition considering the recent rain.
Onto the morning foursomes and leading us off was the Moor Hall partnership off. In an extremely close game with both pairs being ahead during the match it was Warwickshire who claimed the point with a 1up victory. Out second was Pelly and bears debutant Matt. After losing the 1st hole they battled away to earn and extremely hard fought and precious half point.
Third out returning after a very long injury lay off was Paul and his experienced partner Shaun. Looking like he had never been away from the game combined with Shaun's excellence game off the tee it was a winning return to the fold with a 3&2 victory. Forth pairing was the boys from Copt Heath Tom and Paul D. Having been down early in their match they could not turn it around and faced a 3&2 loss. A good team result. We go into the singles 2.1/1.5 up.
Out at number was Will Bailey, with a fast start and some really impressive golf he made fast work of his point and dispatched the opponent with a commanding 6/5 victory. At two was Pelly, this would be a tight affair with neither player able to get a good lead. Pelly held his nerve down the last to grind out a very important 1up victory. Jack was next up having had a tough match in the morning it would be much the same in the afternoon. Never the less he carried on his good form to complete a confident 2/1 victory.
Number four was Matt. He started off with some solid golf but his opponent began to take the upper hand through the back of the front 9. Unable to turn it around it was a 6/5 victory for Northampton. Paul W out at number 5 showing no signs of rustiness he played some fantastic golf to complete a 2/1 victory. A great day performance after his injury lay-off.
Number 6 was Tom who would have a tight game from start to finish. He battled away to ensure he would come away with a half point for the singles. Paul D up at number seven started his round well and was up early through the front 9. Hitting some brilliant tee shots meant the Northampton player could not recover and he closed out a fantastic 5/4 victory. Last out was Shaun having played some lovely golf in the foursome he was unable to transfer that form into the afternoon and it was a 3/2 win for Northampton.
A brilliant 8/4 bears victory.
I would like to thank Rushden GC for their hospitality throughout the day. As always thank you to Nev for his continued support

Warwickshire 2nd team captain.
