Our second non-league match of the season was against Northamptonshire and played at Northampton Golf Club. Situated on the outskirts of the town in the village of Harlestone, the course is set out in beautiful rolling hills. The sun was shining and the red kites were floating around and above us all day…it felt as though summer had arrived at last.
A strong start for Warwickshire in the morning meant that we went into lunch with a heathy 4.5-1.5 lead.
The afternoon fourball matches continued along a similar theme to the morning, with Copt Heaths' pairing of Timmins & Morris producing a strong performance and winning 3&2. The experienced pairings of Dylan Ward/Ken Spencer and Rob Soen/Colin Brice both holding their nerve down the tricky last hole and winning their games 1up.
The final score was Northamptonshire 5.5 - 12.5 Warwickshire
My thanks go to Northants captain Andrew MacDonald and Northampton Golf Club for the warm welcome extended to us throughout the day, it was thoroughly enjoyable.
Last but not least to my playing partner on the day, Ian Stranks who struck the ball beautifully off the tee and holed the putts when required, well played.
Our next match is against Worcestershire at Bromsgrove Golf Club on 8th July
