This was our 3rd league match of the season with Worcestershire the only county in the league not to lose a game yet this season. If we could beat them the league would be very tight indeed, with three sides having a won 2- lost 1 record…that was the target.
Warwickshire welcomed Dave Mason back to the Seniors side after his injury layoff, whilst Worcestershire had 5 or 6 new/returning players from the side we played last year.
The morning foursomes were very tight with 5 out of the 6 games going down the last hole. We would go into lunch 4-2 down.
The afternoon fourballs started well, in the top match, Neale/Stranks managed to overcome the experienced pairing from Worcestershire to bring the scores level.
Sadly this was as good as it got, Lanny Watkins/Phil Murphy picked up the only other point with a half in their match.
We lost the game 5-13 to a strong Worcestershire side.
The highlight of the day was nothing to do with golf but caused much amusement to all present….
Our one and only, Mr Ken Spencer befriended a squirrel on the tee at the 9th hole, he dropped a little of his nutty caramel snack bar on the floor and the rodent dully gobbled the it up….Ken had made a new friend and decided he would hand feed it a little more snack bar, the squirrel took its chance, sank its incisors into Ken's finger and ran off with the snack…
Ken was left red faced with blood dripping from his finger!
Thank you to the Warwickshire team for your time and effort, to Bromsgrove Golf Club for looking after us brilliantly on the day, the Club is a vibrant, integral part of the local community and has a great feel to it.
Our fourth and final league match of the season is against Derbyshire at Copt Heath on Thursday 15th August.
