Our final league game of the season was against Derbyshire at Copt Heath Golf Club. We arrived safely at the club in good time, all looking forward to playing Copt Heath, which is always a treat.
In overcast, blustery conditions the morning foursomes went Warwickshire's way. The partnerships Mason/Neale and Watkins/Gordon managing halves with all the other teams winning their matches, we went into lunch with a healthy 5-1 lead.
In the afternoon, from 4 o'clock the rain started to fall and at times it was very heavy. The team played some great golf, managed the conditions superbly. Gardner/Barker team halving their game with all the other matches going Warwickshire's way. The afternoon result was 11-1.
The overall match score was 16-2.
A superb performance by The Warwickshire Seniors, with no team members losing a game all day. It was a fantastic day.
We were pleased to welcome Anthony Walmsley from Stratford on Avon Golf Club for his debut for the Seniors and it was a great start to his career to win both morning and afternoon.
My thanks go to Copt Heath Golf Club for the hospitality extended to both sides; the food all day was delicious, the course was in good condition and thoroughly enjoyable to play.
Thank you to the Warwickshire team for a great effort, we will have to wait until next week to find out what position we finish in the league this year.
