The team selected to play for Warwickshire
Monty Fincher (Stratford Upon Avon)
Ollie Camargo Jones (Coventry Golf Club)
Jack Hewitson (Copt Heath Golf Club)
Jake Frearson (Nuneaton Golf Club)
Archie Williams (Ladbrook Park Golf Club)
William Pagett (Coventry Golf Club)
Edward Hayle (Rugby Golf Club)
Kamraan Aratsu (Copt Heath Golf Club)
The team arrived at Morley Hayes Golf Club, the sun was out and the golf course looked stunning (this weather wasn't to last)
Whilst the lads were tucking into their bacon Rolls news filtered through that Kamraan wasn't going to be able to make the match which meant we were left with 7 players on the day, this also meant that one of the lads would have to take one for the team and sit out the morning foursomes session.
Jake volunteered, so Manager Rich rejigged his team and sent the lads out on the course knowing that before they had even hit a ball Derbyshire would be leading the match two-Nil
Morning Pairings as follows;
Monty & Edward
Ollie & Jack
William & Archie
Monty and Ed got off to a fast start and were soon 2 up through 2 holes, reaching the turn at 1up, it was a battle back 9 with the match going up the 18th and finally finishing with the match being halved.
Next up were Ollie and Jack, they got off to a slow start and were soon down in the match, then out of knowwhere the normally reliable Ollie suddenly developed the ‘shanks' then to make things worse the Derbyshire lads held a bunker shot at the 7th, there was no way back for the lads and ended up losing the match 6&5
The last match out of the course was Archie & William, things weren't looking good, when they got to the turn they were 3 down, it then clicked with the lads winning holes, 12, 13 and 14 to bring the match all square, on the last green Archie would stand over a 10 foot putt he needed to hole for the half of the match, this kid lives for pressure moments like this and rolled it straight into the cup.
After the morning session the score sat at Derbyshire 4 Warwickshire 1
The lads sat down for lunch and Coach Rich Lee gave Ollie a few tips to cure his shanks, as I had said earlier we arrived in glorious sunshine, by the time the singles matches were going out we had torrential rain, the temperature had dropped and the wind had picked up, it was going to be a battle out there.
Monty went out first but really struggled against his opponent, losing his match, next up was Jack who was playing some great golf and was 5 up in his match at the turn, he would end up winning his match 4&3
Then came Ollie, whatever Rich said to him at lunch clearly made an impact with Ollie making birdies all over the place, finishing with a nice birdie on the 16th to win his match 3&2
News was filtering across the course that the match was looking close, Jake out at number 7 was 5 up thru 9 holes and the other three matches on the course were very tight, as the matches entered the back 9 the rain had finally stopped.
With a chipping masterclass Archie was holding his own, but would lose the 15th to go one down with three to go, he then hit a stunning 6 iron into the par 3 16th for a gimme birdie to go back A/S and would then go on to win 17 and 18 to win his match
News then came in that Jake has won his match 6&5
Meaning with one match left on the course Warwickshire were leading 6-5, unfortunately William would lose 2&1.
A fantastic performance by the Warwickshire lads considering they were 2 nil down before they had even hit a ball.
Final Score Derbyshire 6 Warwickshire 6
