Warwickshire Girls 2024 Stableford Series ends with some excellent scoring!

Series 3 of the Stableford Series for Girls was played at Stonebridge Golf Club on Sunday, 1st September.

We were delighted so many of the girls were available and with having seen many reduce their handicaps over the summer were looking forward to seeing what they could do at this final event of the season.

We were made very welcome by the club, in particular Marlene Simmons, the Lady Captain and Will Newcombe, Golf Operations  Manager. Before we arrived, Marlene and Pam, last year's Lady Captain even went out on a buggy to ensure the Blue tees, which some of the girls were playing off, were clearly marked! Both Marlene and Pam then accompanied groups of girls as did WLCGA committee members Lesley Duff and Jane Frith.  I and the girls were very grateful for the help and support they all gave on the day.

The play was rather slow for 9 holes as the club was busy on the day but for those playing 18 holes, the girls had a free run on the back 9 and raced around putting in some very good scores.

The winner of the 18 hole category for handicaps 0 - 36.4 was Grace Walkden (Stonebridge GC) with an excellent  score of 39 points - no matter that it is her home club, she still had to play well! Well done Grace.

Lauren Clarke (Ladbrook Park GC) was runner up with another very good score of 38 points with Bethany (The Warwickshire G&CC) on 36 points and Serafima (Sutton Coldfield GC) on 34.

There was really good scoring from all the girls in this category as the slow play on the 1st nine must have tested them all.

Five girls played in the 9 holes category for those with handicaps 54 and below but electing to play 9 holes.  Seren Hylton (Moor Hall GC) and Anaya Sukhija (Shirley GC) were joint winners with very good 17 points.

In the Futures category, Annabelle Maybury (Rugby GC) was completing a card towards her handicap so played off the red tees and won this group. It's tough working towards getting your first card but she has done 3 with us this year - well done Annabelle!

Three girls played off the Blue Tees and all had really good scores!  Grace Hemmings (Olton GC), playing in her first competition with us won with a brilliant 25 points, closely followed by Mairi MacLeod (Lea Marston GC) on 21 and Dottie Howe (Coventry GC)on 20 points. Well done all of you, perhaps next year these girls will be putting cards in for handicap.

That was the final competition in the series and the points over the 3 events will be added up and the winner presented with the Stableford Series trophy at the Pre-season meeting in March 2025.

I wonder who it will be this time?
