Team Warwickshire v Golfers With Disabilities Match at Walmley Golf Club.
Unfortunately, Team Warwickshire's Match against a team representing the Golfers With Disabilities, (GWD), scheduled for Walmley Golf Club on Tuesday 24th September 2024, had to be cancelled. The excessive rainfall of the previous weekend suffered by the golf course, meant that the use of buggies was not possible and the Match was understandably postponed. The Match was to have been twelve players a side and the Warwickshire Team was to have included Board members from both the Mens Golf Union and Ladies Association, as well as County 1st team and Senior team players. The host Club would also have been well represented with the Lady Captain, Professional and members from the Walmley Golf Foundation Community Interest Company, responsible for the development of the recently opened All-Weather Short Game Area designed for able and disability golfers, all participating. The Disabilities Team was to have included their Captain Paul “Stumpy†Daley, former EDGA Disabled European Tour player Andrew Gardiner, local celebrity golfer Ellie Perks, along with Neil Patrick, the driving force behind GWD.
However, three members of the Disabilities team took the opportunity to visit Walmley after having played a match in Worcestershire the previous day. The players all hit some balls on the new short game area, with a number of holed chip shots between them. Club Professional, Steve Carter provided clubs and balls and the trio were chaperoned around the facility by Mark and Deb Reynolds, Warwickshire Golf Union Chairman and Warwickshire County Ladies Golf Association Director of Competitions respectively, who are both members at Walmley. After spending a couple of hours on site the GWD team made their way home to Yorkshire and Lancashire, with the commitment to a match being played at Walmley next year.
