Warwickshire Boys Perform Well in U16s County Cup
The U16s County Cup is a six-man team event with the best 5 gross scores over 18 holes counting for the team. All 10 counties within the MGU enter a team. There are also individual honours for the best performer.
The 2024 County Cup was held at The Manor GC (Kingstone) on Sunday 29th September. Our team of 6 players was as follows:
Kamraan Arastu (Copt Heath)
Oliver Camargo-Jones (Coventry)
Monty Fincher (Stratford on Avon)
Edward Hayle (Rugby)
Jack Hewitson (Copt Heath)
Freddy Montgomery (Moor Hall)
We had arranged a practice round for the lads the week before the event so that they could familiarise themselves with the venue, as none had played it before. Unfortunately, the heavens opened the night before meaning the practice round had to be cancelled as the course was closed. The lads would therefore have to play the course “blind†and the playing order was:
Freddy
Monty
Jack
Ollie
Kamraan
Ed
Sadly, Monty and Ed weren't quite at their best, but Freddy, Jack, Ollie and Kamraan recorded strong scores, all finishing within the top 20 individually (Jack was our best performer with a gross 73 to finish 7th).
Our team total of 379 saw us finish in 3rd place, 1 shot behind Shropshire & Herefordshire but 12 shots behind the winning team from Derbyshire. Derbyshire's score included the only two sub-par rounds, an excellent performance.
Thanks go to The Manor for hosting the event, the MGU officials for running it and also our team of supporters on the day who helped keep our boys in strong spirit.
