STRONG WIN ON FRIDAY TO COMPLETE THE WEEK
On this the last day of competition, we played against Oxfordshire. As far as the overall scores were concerned, this match was a dead rubber, as Warwickshire, having won on each of the four previous days, could not be beaten. Captain Bobbi Waugh had other ideas though and selected her team both in the morning and afternoon to go out and continue winning and they did just that!
To summarise the morning play, Charlotte DALTON with Charlotte PRIDDLE, Yen Pham and Katrina GANI and Charlotte HARTSHORN with Sue JONES were the chosen pairings to play in this, the last foursomes of the week.
Expectations from The 'Charlottes' were a win and they did not disappoint! Holes were won and lost throughout the round, but on the 15th our girls went 1 up. Halving the 16th, they then won the 17th when Charlotte PRIDDLE sank a difficult 7ft putt. Match 1 is won 2 and 1.
Yen and Katrina also had an up and down game coming to the 14th All Square. They lost the 15th and then halving the 16th and 17th, they were 1 down on the 18th tee. Putts did not drop and they eventually lost the 18th and the match 2 down.
Charlotte HARTSHORM and Sue JONES (playing in her first match this week) were 1 down after 9 holes. Charlotte's drive was unplayable on 10th and they eventually lost that hole to go 2 down. The pulled back however over holes 11 to 17, and going down the last hole, they lost to a par, match 1 down.
A talking to by the Captain over lunch ensued and the 6 singles players chosen for the afternoon were determined not to let her down!
One of the strongest players, Abbey GITTINGS led the field this afternoon and she was soon 2 up after 4 holes, having birdied the par 3, 4th. She then lost the next 3 holes to some excellent play from her opponent and then also the 9th to be 2 down after 9. Holes 10 to 13 were halved in pars with the exception of the 12th where both carded birdies and then Abbey got one back on 14 and also won the 16th to then go all square. Halves in 4 on the 17th and it was nail biting time!! Abbey came through though winning the 18th with a par and thus the match 1 up - a really good start.
Katrina GANI was next out and she got off to a less than favourable start, going 2 down after 1st 2 holes. She hung in there, getting holes back on the 4th and 6th and went 1 up after the 7th. With 2 halved holes on 8 and 9, this was looking better. She won 10th with a par, 12th with a birdie and 15th with a par, halving 11th, 13th and 14th, winning her match 4 and 3. All square in the overall match!
Charlotte HARTSHORN had an in/out front 9 and was 1 under at the turn. She lost 10th and 11th, won 12th and 13th with birdies but then lost 14th and 15th and after halving the 16th, she lost the match 3 and 2.
Experienced Lisa BARTON, lost holes 2, 4 and 6 and with only 1 win on the par 5, 8th, she was 2 down after 9 holes. Immediate comeback on 10th when she carded a birdie 4 and then wins on 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th saw her 3 up at this stage. Her opponent had other ideas and won the next three holes finishing All Square. "What a battle that was" was Lisa's comment when coming off the 18th green.
Newcomer to County Match Week 2013, Charlotte PRIDDLE quickly went down after losing holes on 1st, 4th and 5th but pulled back 2 holes with magnificent birdies on the 6th and 8th, finishing the front 9, 1 down. She came back with avengence however and won the 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th to win her match 5 and 3. What a good start she has had in 2013.
At this stage we were up in the overall match by 1 games and we needed Charlotte DALTON to come in with a win. and once again she did not disappoint. Winning the 1st, but losing the advantage on the 3rd and 5th holes, she then came back with 3 wins on 7th, 8th and 9th to be 2 up at the turn. She lost the 10th, halved the 11th and then came through with a series of wins on 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th to win her match 5 and 3.
What a day, which we eventually won 5 1/2 to 3 1/2. Five days, five wins - what could Captain Bobbi have possibly thought about this fantastic play from her team? We were soon to know!
After being presented with the DORIS ABRAHAM TROHPY, for winning the Midlands South Region County Match Week, Bobbi was beaming from ear to ear! In her speech, she thanked all of the organisers from Oxfordshire County Golf Association, the helpers from Frilford Heath GC, the Caterers for all their hard word and of course the Green Keepers who had produced this fantastic course for the players. She joked about the easy pin placements, but everyone agreed that the greens were just great, which after being cut and ironed twice a day, perhaps should have been!
She went on " The girls have just jelled this week and there has been a terrific team spirit amongst them. Their commitment and hard work in practice in getting to this position has made me a very proud Captain. Every one of them contributed to our victory this week. We also had great support from the caddies and the players appreciated them being there, especially Ernie Stene, who travelled down every day." She also thanked her committee and all the helpers and supporters from the Warwickshire clubs who had been down to Frilford to support the team during the week.
Next stop is Wilmslow Golf Club in Cheshire for the National finals from Monday 16th to Friday 20th September 2013.

GREAT WIN AGAINST WORCESTERSHIRE/HEREFRORDSHIRE
Charlotte HARTSHORN | Charlotte DALTON | Abbey GITTINGS | Katrina GANI |
Thursday 20th June and Warwickshire were first out again at 8.30 a. m. and 1.00 p.m.with the opponents being Worcestershire & Herefordshire. At the start of the match Warwickshire were narrowly in the lead, followed by our opponents, so today's match would be crucial to the overall result. Greyness and humidity followed by rain was the forecast, but happily this did not come to fruition - the rain stayed away!
Captain Bobbi had once again picked strong foursomes pairings in Melissa with Abbey, Rachel and Katrina and finally Claire and Charlotte HARTSHORN, all who had performed well over the previous 3 days.
Melissa and Abbey quickly went 2 down after 4 holes following 2 birdies from the opposition, followed by a further loss on 6th after an eagle. Not to be outdone, Melissa narrowly missed a birdie at 7th but still won the hole, birdied 8th to reduce defecit to 1 down and then won 9th to be all square on 9th. On back 9, it was level after 15th, but then our pairing went ahead and won the 16th and 17th for a 2 and 1 win.
Rachel and Katrina had a really close match throughout. All square after 4 holes, they then won a hole and quickly lost the benefit at the 8th and after halving 9th were all square. They managed to hold a 1 hole advantage by the 14th, halved 15 in fives with W & H getting it back to all square on 16th. 17th was halved and then after an adventurous 18th, finally lost the match 1 down. Match honours even!
Out came Claire and Charlotte who quickly went 3 up after 4 holes having birdied 3rd, then went 4 up after 5 and then 5 up after another birdie. W & H took one back on 7th and with a half on 8th, followed by winning 9th, they were in an extremely positive and comfortable position. They went on to win 11th with a par and 12th with a bogey to post a fantastic win of 7 and 6.
Morning honours to Warwickshire 2 games to 1 - the afternoon singles would be crucial but we needed only to win 3 out of the 6 matches!!
This afternoon, Abbey GITTINGS set the pace and soon got things moving. Wins on holes 1 and 2, with a half on 3rd, Abbey then lost the 4th to be 1 up. She won the 10th with a birdie and then 11th. The match was going her way. On 12th they halved hole, and then Abbey won the next to win overall 6 and 5. 1 off the required list!
Second out was Melissa who was determined to continue her winning streak and she did not disappoint. After winning 1st after hole was conceded, halves were posted on the following 4 holes, then Melissa won 6th and 8th and lost the 9th to reach the turn 2 up. A par 5 on the 10th followed by a birdie 2 on the 11th, this was now 4 up. 12th and 13th were halved in par 5's and 4's respectively but then the wheels fell off for a while and she lost the next 2 holes, both to birdies. 3 off the tee followed on the 16th for Melissa as she had driven Out of Bounds, meaning a further loss, but in winning the 17th, she was home and dry, winning 2 and 1.
Katrina GANI, who has done so well in her matches to date was next out. On the front 9 she halved 7 holes, but won and lost a hole on 3rd and 6th respectively. On the back 9 with halves on 10th, 11th and 12th, she then won 13th, halved 14th and 15th and then won 16th and 17th to post her win of 3 and 1.
Warwickshire had won the three matches required for the overall win, but weren't finished yet!
Charlotte DALTON, who had not lost a match this week, was next out and how she started with a blast. Winning the first 4 holes, she then lost 5th and 7th, winning 8th and then scoring a birdie 2 on the 9th to complete the front 9, 4 up. With 2 further birdies over holes 10 to 15 with all of the holes halved, Charlotte posted yet another win for Warwickshire, 4 and 3.
Rachel RUSTED started much more slowly, halving first 2 holes and then losing 3rd. However, she won 4th and 6th holes, but then quickly lost holes 8 and 9 to be 1 down at turn. This match was going to be very close I fear! With halves at 10th and 11th with birdie 2, she lost the 12th, then soon had the advantage, posting a birdie 3 to win 13th. She lost 15th and then quickly won 16th and also 17th, where she nearly holed her third shot, a 7 iron. The 18th was her undoing though and she only managed to post a bogey 5, losing the match by just one hole - my was it close!
In the last match, Charlotte HARTSHORN, who seemed to be really enjoying this, her second County Match Week experience was determined to keep up the winning habit. 2 up at the turn after a very close match, she set off to post that last win. She won the 10th, then lost the 11th, halved the 12th and then won 13th with a par 4. Halving 14 and 15, she then lost the 16th but came back quickly with a par 4 to win the 17th and the match 3 and 1.
What a fantastic day and one that they will not forget in a long time. Vice Captain, Karen Hearn said that "everyone here is over the moon- we have won the Midlands South Region in 4 days as no-one can catch us now and that is just fantastic"
Why not come down to Frilford tomorrow to watch the last day's play and celebrate their win?

3 WINS IN A ROW AND IT'S ONLY WEDNESDAY!
Charlotte PRIDDLE | Melissa NICOL | Yen PHAM |
On the hottest day of the year with extreme humidity forecast, Wednesday 19th June saw Warwickshire players set up against Buckinghamshire, the 2012 winners of this event. After no rain in evidence since Monday, the greens were getting faster and faster and the fairways allowing the ball to roll forever and the team were in for perhaps the stiffest test of the week so far. They were up to it though and with one or two new faces in the team today for both sessions, we were in for a treat.
One of the hottest pairings of the week in Melissa NICOL and Abbey GITTINGS led the field out and were once again in terrific form. On the previous 2 days, they had finished the morning Foursomes on the 16th green, but today they went one better and it was all over on the 15th, winning 5 and 3. They obviously love this format and of course the course!
Second match out had newcomer Charlotte PRIDDLE (Moor Hall) paired with the experienced Charlotte DALTON. Having gone 1 down after 4 holes, Charlotte PRIDDLE holed their 3rd shot, a chip from 40+ yards at the par 5 8th hole to go 1 up, following with a half at 9. After a birdie at the 12th, they were 1 up after 16. They then lost the 17th and an excellent 4 on the 18th halved the match
The experienced pairing of Claire HOWELLS and Lisa BARTON however did not have such a good day, losing the first 4 holes and after pulling one back on the 9th, they lost the 10th to a birdie and then also the 12th, won the 14th and 15th with pars, eventually losing on the 16th, 4 and 2.
Morning result then was 1 1/2 matches to 1 1/2 and the afternoon singles players would have to really buckle down if we were going to continue with the winning streak.
Once again, Melissa set off first in the afternoon singles, hoping to post the first win and set the target. She did not disappoint, having never been down in the match and winning the match 4 and 2. She posted the first win on the par 4, 3rd hole, halved 5 and 6 and then had birdie 4 on the 6th, par 5. A great eagle 3 followed on the 427 yards, par 5 8th, leaving her 3 up at the turn. She lost the 10th to a birdie, halved 11, 12 and 13 then bogied the 14th to win hole, and after winning the 16th, won the match 4 and 2 - what a start!
Strong, Abbey GITTINGS followed on next and once again gave a fantastic display of golf during the afternoon. Up by 2 after an eagle 3 at the long par 5 2nd, the next hole was conceded to her due to a lost ball, she went on to win 6th and 9th with a birdie - 5 up at the turn. On the back 9, Abbey won the 10th, 11th and 12th making her 8 holes up with 6 to play. That must be one of the best rounds of the week thus far.
Another strong player in Charlotte DALTON came out 3rd and what a start - she won the first 4 holes! She lost 2 further holes on front 9, making the turn 2 up. The back 9 was a real tussle with honours fairly even with holes being won and then lost! She evenually won the 17th to win her match 2 and 1. 3 matches won to date this afternoon - how good was that?
A debut singles appearance for the team for Charlotte PRIDDLE (Moor Hall) and she played well on the front 9 in an up and down encounter. First blood to her on 2nd but then lost the next 3 holes, she lost the 7th hole and then won the par 3 9th to end front 9, 2 down. Charlotte won the 10th but then lost the 11th and 12th with bogies, lost 13th with a birdie and the 14th to par. Her first encounter at this level of golf, she had put in a good show and was obviously disappointed to lose 5 and 4.
Yen PHAM (Shirley) also was playing for the first time this week and she was wanting to do well after practising so hard during the week. She did not start too well though, losing 1st, 2nd and 5th holes but then pulled back 2 holes on 6th and 7th, finishing the front 9 on 1 down. Halving the 10th, but then losing the 11th with a bogie 4 and 12th, she went on to win the 13th, 16th and 17th. It was all now on the 18th. They both played the hole well finishing with par 4's. Yern had posted a half, and they all count!
Charlotte HARTSHORN, who had played so well yesterday, was the last out today. She started well with a birdie 4 on 2nd hole, which was then pulled back on 3rd and 4th with birdies. followed by loss on 5th and 7th holes. Charlotte won 6th and then again on 8th with a birdie 4. She was 1 down at the turn having had 4 birdies on the front 9 between them - the back 9 should prove interesting! Halving the 10th, Charlotte won 11th with par 3 but then lost the par 5 12th when opponent had a 4ft putt for and eagle 3! Wins on 13th and 14th, she lost the 15th. and then bounced back with a win on 16th only to lose the 17th. All square on the 18th tee they finished with par 4's to finally halve the match, which from the scores, was a very fair result.
A very good day's work which eventually gave a win 5 1/2 to 3 1/2 to Warwickshire.
Could this be the year? - Tomorrow's match with Worcestershire/Herefordshire will be critical, as Warwickshire has just gone ahead today in the overall results and guess who they are playing - yes the 2nd placed team!

CONFIDENCE CONTINUING FOR SECOND WIN OF WEEK
Katrina GANI | Charlotte DALTON | Rachel RUSTED |
Tuesday 18th saw Warwickshire drawn against the Berkshire team and we were first off in the morning and afternoon proceedings. Reports from the players were that the greens were quickening and proving more difficult, but this did not deter the Warwickshire County players as many of them were used to quick greens. Weather was very warm but overcast all day, so the waterproof trousers and sweaters were discarded and the water bottles were in plentiful supply.
The morning Foursomes saw two of the same pairs in Abbey GITTINGS with Melissa NICOL and Rachel RUSTED with Katrina GANI. The third pairing was Claire HOWELLS with first timer, Charlotte HARTSHORN. They all had quite tight games and going to the last two holes before recording their wins. Abbey and Melissa won on the 16th green, 3 and 2, Rachel and Katrina posted a 2 and 1 win and Claire and Charlotte also posted a 2 and 1 win. This was just the start Captain Bobbi had envisaged, and she was delighted.
In the 6 afternoon singles, Melissa was out first and seemingly was not quite on her game this afternoon, losing her match on the 15th, 4 and 3.
Next out was Charlotte DALTON who started with a birdie at the first, following with a par at the 2nd to go 2 up. Back to all square by the 7th, she then lost the 8th as well but followed with a great bunker shot on 9th to get back to all square. On the back 9, it was nip and tuck all the way to the 16th and 17th, holes which Charlotte won, and thus won her match 2 and 1.
Claire HOWELLS, who was playing in the fourth match in two days seemed to run out of steam this afternoon and after the three wins posted over the past 2 days, she was most disappointed to lose her match on the 15th green, 5 and 3.
Up came Rachel RUSTED, who had battled yesterday afternoon from being 4 down early, to then post a win. Today, she was 5 up at the turn and with a birdie at the 12th ended her game with a great win of 6 and 5.
Now to the younger members of the team in Charlotte HARTSHORN and Katrina GANI who were out numbers 5 and 6. Charlotte lost the first, halved the 2nd with birdies and at the turn was 1 down having won the 9th. At the 11th, she won the par 3 hole with a par, then achieved another birdie at 12th for a half and then came a run of wins for her - 13th, 15th and 16th to post the eventual winning score of 3 and 2. Two wins today, that is some golf!
In the final match, Katrina "gave a magnificent display of Golf" to quote her caddy!. With a fabulous 208 yard, 2nd shot on to the 6th green, level with the pin, the hole was conceded to take her to 3 up. She continued to win 9th, 12th and 13th to win 6 and 5. That is some scoring, after 2 whole days of playing.
Once again, Captain Bobbi Waugh couldn't wipe the smile off her face as she welcomed the players back to the clubhouse. What a start for the first 2 days!!

GREAT START FOR DAY 1 OF COUNTY MATCH WEEK 2013
Abbey GITTINGS and Melissa NICOL | Claire HOWELLS and Charlotte DALTON | Rachel RUSTED and Katrina GANI |
Today, Monday 17th June was the start of County Match Week for the Midlands South Region and the venue for this prestigious event was Frilford Heath Golf Club, using the Red Course. The Course was stunning, with Greens, Fairways and Bunkers all in tip top condition - all that was needed was the weather and even that did not disappoint. After early rain, the sky cleared and it stayed dry all day, even getting warmer as the day went on.
County Captain, Bobbi Waugh was confident that she had a good strong team and they did not disappoint on this first day, coming in with a 3 games to love in the morning Foursomes, followed by a win of 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 in the 6 afternoon Singles - an overall win of 6 1/2 to 2 1/2 against a strong Northants side.
Melissa NICOL (Moor Hall) and Abbey GITTINGS (Walmley) led the way this morning finishing on the 16th green with a Par and a win of 3 up and 2 to play.
Rachel RUSTED (Nuneaton) and Katrina GANI (Shirley) were 2 up after the 16th hole, lost the 17th and then halved the 18th for a win of 1 up.
Claire HOWELLS (Moor Hall) and Charlotte DALTON (Kings Norton) reached the 18 tee 1 up and with Claire driving well up the fairway, Charlotte hit the second shot to edge of green. Claire then putted from off the green and after the ball had hung on edge of hole for a couple of seconds, it dropped for a birdee and and a win, 2 up.
Abbey GITTINGS (Walmley) was first out in the afternoon with a very strong opponent, Megan MacLAREN and a battle royal ensued between these two qualifiers in the British Amateur Championship. Really steady golf with Megan closing the first 9, one up after birdieing the 6th. Abbey then won the 10th with a birdie. followed by a winning par on the 11th and then another birdie on the 12th. They battled it out right up to the 18th green, with Megan winning the hole and match with a further birdee - what a battle!
Charlottle DALTON (Kings Norton) had a great win of 4 up with 3 holes to play and was delighted to post the first win of the afternoon. She played outstanding golf with birdies on 2nd, 6th and 7th to be 1 up by turn. She was then 5 up by the 12th, then lost a hole, eventually winning on the 15th.
The second win of the afternoon came from Claire HOWELLS (Moor Hall) after being 2 up at the turn, having logged 3 birdies. With a par 5 on 10th followed by a win with a par on the 11th, Claire was now 4 up. Claire's opponent Mary however had other thoughts!! She pulled 2 back on 12th and 13th and with 3 holes halved, Claire was now 2 up with 2 to play. Losing the 17th hole, it was now extremely close at 1 hole up and managing to gain a half in 5 at the 18th, Claire won the way - 1 up.
Rachel RUSTED (Nuneaton) also posted a win for Warwickshire, again going to the 18th. Going 3 down after 4 holes, Rachel quickly pulled back 2 holes to finish the first 9, 1 down. With holes won and lost on the back 9, this match went the whole way with the win for Rachel, 1 up.
Lisa BARTON (Brandon Woods) playing against an ex Warwickshire junior player, Charlotte TAYLOR, did not have a good day for her and posted a loss of 5 and 3 for the afternoon.
Last out was Katrina GANI (Shirley) who had an up and down battle against a very experienced Northants player, who seemed to get the ball in the hole from anywhere on or off the green!! They came in with a half, which was a very fair result as they had been so close all afternoon.
Well done to all the Warwickshire players, and a very happy Captain, Bobbi, just said "Wow".
