Day 5. - Friday 27th June

Lots of rain overnight but this morning started well at a comfortable temperature and rain coming when most had completed their morning rounds. Today Warwickshire are playing Hereford and Worcestershire and the match should be very competitive as they are old adversaries.

Team for the Foursomes was Claire Howells with Charlotte Hartshorn, Hannah Coles with Kelly Knight and Lisa Barton with youngster Emily Price. Let battle commence!

I caught up with with game one on the 7th which they won with an excellent Birdie but then lost the 9th, par 4 after the putt was left hanging over the hole for a half!! Pity this, as they had the advantage after an excellent tee shot, while their opponents had to chip out of the trees. This left them 2 down. After 12th this had increased to 3 down but after a wild tee shot on the par 3, 13th by a Worcester player, they pulled back to 2 down as the hole was conceded. A series of halved holes on 15, 16 and 17 meant that they had found it impossible to break down the opposition and lost the game by 2 and 1.

After a steady series of holes Hannah and Kelly were All Square after the 8th. On 9th, again a putt missing by a fraction resulted in them scoring 5 against a par 4. They then lost holes 10, 11 and 12 to go 4 down. Great  recovery on par 3, 13th to halve the hole stopped the rot, but it was noticeable that Hannah was looking very tired, having played so much this week. This came to the fore on 14th, when she hit the 2nd shot way right and over the boundary wall, which made them eventually lost the hole and match 5 and 4.

Lisa and Emily lost the 1st but quickly came back with a Birdie on 2nd to go All Square. Halves on 5 and 6, they lost 7 and then won 8 and 9 when Emily hit her 2nd shot to 2 ft from the pin. Match All Square. Wins on 10 and 11 and a half on 12, they were now 2 up and motoring. Lisa's tee shot to par 3, 13th landed on the green with Emily sinking a longish putt, making them 3 up. 14 the was also won, and with a half on 15, our girls won their match 4 and 3.

A good morning's work by all 6 players and even though they had lost the Foursomes 2 games to 1, there was still everything to play for - Warwickshire for pride and the chance of their 2nd win of the week while Hereford and Worcestershire were still in the hunt to win the Silver Dog Trophy. Watch this space!!!

Afternoon Singles saw some of our players rested at last and as the injuries seemed to be healing these girls were keen to get out there and play.  Order of play was: Emily Price, Charlotte Hartshorn,  Katrina Gani, Charlotte Priddle, Rachel Rusted and Tracy Atkins.

With her father caddying this afternoon, Emily quickly went 2 up by 4th, lost the 5th and then pulled back to 2up on 6th when her pitch shot landed 6 inches left of the hole. When she holed her Birdie putt on 8th and followed with a further Birdie on 9th, then a Half on 10th, she was 5 up!  The next 2 holes were lost but was she disheartened - oh no. Halves on 14th and 15th and then a win on 16th, Emily had won her game 3 and 2.  My this young lady of 13 is some talent and one to watch - she played beautifully all day today and with such maturity for one so young!!

This second match was going to be something with Charlotte pitched against Worcestershire County Champion, Lucy Walton. It certainly did not disappoint and the game was extremely close all the way with little in it until the 14th when Lucy scored an Eagle 3 on the long Par 5, and then followed with a Birdie on 15th.  Lucy won the match 3 and 2, having scored 2 Birdies and an Eagle to Charlotte's 1 Birdie.  A great example of competitive matchplay golf withvery little difference difference between the two players.

Katrina on the other hand, had a really bad day with her driver and was flying them everywhere but her scrambling was excellent this afternoon. She was never up until her fortunes changed on the 13th which she won when the hole was conceded, bringing her back to All Square. 14th was halved with Birdies and then she holed a 15ft putt for Birdie to go 1 up on the 16th. With a Par on the 17th against Bogey, Katrina won her match 2 and 1.

Charlotte Priddle, who played so well yesterday also had a very close match although she was never up during the round, halving the 17th hole in Birdie 3's, she lost 2 and 1.  Two other particularly memorable holes were the 2nd where she sank a 30ft putt for Birdie and then on 14th when she was putting for an Eagle after hitting a terrific shot out of rough and over trees to land on the green for 2. She missed the Eagle when the ball rolled slowly over the hole and came to rest just inches away.  Another very good effort for Charlotte and with a little more luck she could have been in the winners circle.

Rachel finished her game on the par 5, 15th when she lost this hole and the match 4 and 3.  Having gone to 1 up on 4, she soon let this advantage go by losing the 5th.  2 halved holes followed and then she lost the next 3 going to 3 down.  She kept at this score with halved holes on 12, 13 and 14 but on 15 she lost the game 4 and 3.

Tracy came up against an in form Sarah Cranton, Worcestershire playing Captain and although halving the first 4 holes by the 10th, she was 5 down.  Another 3 halved holes meant that Tracy lost this game 5 and 4 after some excellent play by both players.

Thus the day ended by Warwickshire losing the match by 6 and 3 and at this stage Worcestershire might have been in the hunt for the Trophy.  Just as the last Warwickshire players had completed their round, the threatened rain, thunder and lightening came and with the claxon being sounded, the remaining six games had to be called in, which lasted for approximately 1 hour.  After the restart  all of the games were completed eventually with Buckinghamshire being the overall winners for 2014. Congratulations to them.

A great week of golf by all teams and it is good to see so many young players coming through, especially from some of the other teams - golf looks in good hands for the future.

At the end of play County Captain, Karen Hearn thanked her players for putting in such a great team effort throughout the week. especially some having to play so many matches.  She  commented that she was extremely proud of her team and they had certainly played their hearts out.  It is never easy to play as defending champions as so much is expected of you but some fantastic golf was was played throughout the week.

Day 4 - Thursday 26th June

Again a very sunny morning when we awoke raring to go on Day 4. The team for the morning Foursomes was: Kelly Knight with Charlotte Priddle, Claire Howells with Lisa Barton and Tracy Atkin with Rachel Rusted. The team realised that they had to do well today and all seemed up for it and enthusiastic this morning.

The mind was willing but the opposition in match 1 had other ideas with the Warwickshire pairing going quickly 4 down after 4 holes, a situation that, try as they might, they were not able to recover from. They steadied the ship a little on the par 3, 5th scoring a half with par and indeed they were still only 4 down on 8th tee. Really good play from the girls on the 8th ended with a half in 4 but then this was quickly followed by 2 losses, leaving them 6 down after 10 holes. They managed to pull 2 holes back, but eventually lost on the 14th, 5 and 4.

Then came Lisa and Claire, on paper a very strong pairing. Again up and down over the first few holes, losing the 1st, winning the 3rd and by 4th tee they were All Square. They lost the short 5th, when a ball refused to get out of the left hand bunker!! On the 8th they surpassed themselves, first with a superb drive from Claire well down the middle of the fairway and followed by a fantastic 2nd shot from Lisa which finished 2 ft from the pin. Birdie against par and a win to take them to 1 down. Things then went quite badly after that and by 15th tee, they were 4 down and needing some wins. They managed a half on 15 but by this time it was too late and they lost by 4 and 3.

Rachel and Tracy were last out and started well with a win on the 1st but then the opposition drew level on 2nd and then chipped in for a Birdie on the 3rd to go 1 up. By 8th tee, the Warwickshire pair were 3 down, having lost holes 6 and 7 but they then had a great hole on 8 reducing the deficit to 2 down. After 10th they were back to 3 down but this had been reduced to 1 down by 13th tee. Winning the short 13th took them to All Square and with a further win on 14 at last they were up by 1. A half on long 15th, all OK and then the wheels fell off and they lost the next 2 holes, so were standing on the 18th tee needing a win for a halved game. It didn't happen and they lost the game by 2 holes.

Some great matches this morning, but nothing to show for it! It is very entertaining to be a spectator but frustrating to be a player to see such little return for so much effort.

On to the afternoon Singles matches, where we could not afford to lose more than 1 match to have any chance at all, this year.  Team, selection was again quite restriced to those who were fit!!! and were:  Charlotte Hartshorn, Claire Howells, Hannah Coles, Kelly Knight, Charlotte Priddle and Rachel Rusted.

Quick out of the blocks was Charlotte, chipping in on the 1st for a win, followed by 2 halved holes.  4 losses then ensued, one to a Birdie when opponent hit tee shot to just 3 inches from hole and then when she scored an eagle 3 to Charlotte's par.  By the 10th Charlotte was 5 down - this was not looking good.  She pulled 1 back on 12 with a Birdie 4 and then another with another Birdie 4 - 3 down.  Both players had Birdies on long 15th and then with another half on 16, Charlotte lost her match 3 and 2.  After the 16 holes played, Charlotte was just 1 shot over par but as her caddy commented afterwards, "it was a pleasure to watch such fantastic golf by both players, with the Northants player seemingly being inspired this afternoon."

Claire lost the 2nd hole to a Birdie and then followed 4 halved holes, 3 in par and one in Birdie.  3 losses then came and by the turn she was 4 down. 3 further pars and halves took them to the 13th, which Claire won, however on the 15th, she lost the hole and the game by 4 and 3.  Again Claire had played some excellent golf but somehow the putts did not drop.

Hannah was beginning to suffer from fatigue having played so often this week and it showed, 1 down on 1st, then another on 2nd, pulling one back on 3rd, by the 9th she was 5 down - not the usual Hannah. A half on 10th and then a further loss on 11th when her opponent Birdied the hole, she then did pull one back on the 12th with a par 5.  Having halved the next 2 holes, she ran out of holes and lost the game 5 and 4.

In Game 4, Kelly lost holes steadily until she was down by 4 holes by the 8th, which her opponent Birdied.  She rallied, however winning back holes on 9th, 10th and 12th, which she Birdied.  Now she was just 1 down.  On the 13th a Birdie from the Northants player took her back to 2 down, and then she pulled back on 14th to 1, but losing the 15th and 16th resulted in her losing the game 3 and 2.  A good fighter is Kelly, never giving up.

We were thinking that this was going to be a whitewash today, when we witnessed a fantastic win by Charlotte Priddle. Never down in her match, she had wins on 1st, 6th, 7th to go 3 up but then was reduced to 2 when her opponent had a Birdie on the 9th hole. Quickly gaining advantage by winning 10th and then 11th  with a Birdie, followed by another win with Par on 12th, Charlotte finished the game off on 14th when she narrowly missed and Eagle, but won with Birdie.  Her win was 6 and 4, an excellent days golf for Charlotte who really stepped up in class this afternoon.

Rachel was last out and having played this morning with an aching back, put in a good performance this afternoon taking her game to the 17th, before losing out 2 and 1.  Not many Birdies in this match, mostly Pars and Bogeys and many halved holes.

A terrific effort by all of our players today, with little to show for their endeavours.  Although disappointed with lack of success, they are determined to do better tomorrow, the last day of play, but the weather forecast looks awful!!!  Time will tell.

 Day 3 - Wednesday 25th June

Start of a new day and today Warwickshire were on the tee at 8.30 a.m. Breakfast at 6.30 with a few bleary eyes but they were looking forward to their battle against Berkshire.

By tee off time however, they all looked raring to go and first off this morning were Claire Howells with Charlotte Hartshorn. Slow start by our pair left them 3 down after 5 holes and then they were a further hole down after the 8th, all down to putting. Halves on 9 and 10, they then lost the 11th and 12th to go 5 down- was this a lost cause?! Surprise, surprise, the short 13 then was won in par after the long putt was very close, to go back to 4 down. 2nd shot on 14 was pulled slightly into deep rough and though Claire managed to get the ball out and forward, they lost this hole and their game 5 and 4.

Second game started well with Hannah and Kelly winning the first, losing the 3rd and then winning the 4th. On the 5th, a great tee shot on to the green by Hannah followed by an equally good putt for Birdie resulted in them going 2 up. Signs were good! By 8th tee, however, this lead had reduced to 1, but then a great drive from Kelly followed by a fantastic iron shot to within 12 inches, which was then conceded, made them 2 up again. This game was going backwards and forwards with wins and losses and after 10 holes they were back to 1 up. By 12th, after Hannah had chipped to within 6 inches for a par compared to a Bogey from the opposition, they were now 4 up. Losses on 14, 15 and 16 took them back to 1 up - surely they were not going to lose this one. No, with par on 17th, they eventually won their game 2 and 1. Well done to this pair, they played really well

The final pairing of the morning saw Rachel and Katrina playing together. They lost the 1st then pulled back to All Square on the 4th. Rachel's tee shot landed in the right bunker, to which Katrina commented "I love bunkers!!" She obviously does as her shot was excellent and they finished with par. Then it all started to go wrong! When we saw them coming down the 8th there was obviously something not right as they were both playing shots not routinely seen from them. A comment from Rachel was that " we have just had some very interesting holes!" mostly that they had lost. They eventually lost their game 6 and 5 and after it was all over we discovered that Rachel's bad back had returned from Monday and Katrina's had also gone, resulting in difficulty in them both swinging.

Karen had previously booked the Physio for some light treatment tonight, but it looks like it will be a long session, with so many having troubles!!

Caddies for this afternoon had been advised that their motivational skills were to be the order of the day, so let us see what unfolds.

The 6 players for the Singles games were: Charlotte Hartshorn, Tracy Atkin, Hannah Coles, Kelly Knight, Charlotte Priddle and Lisa Barton.  The sun had been shining all day thus far and it was still very bright and hot by the time our games had finished.

Charlotte was quite determined to set the standard for the afternoon games and did just that with a Birdie on the first - 1 up.  Halves on holes 2 and 3 (both players having Birdies) followed by 2 wins on 4 and 5, the 5th to Birdie taking her to 3 up.  Score remained at that until 8 when she lost to a Birdie and then 9 when Bogey was too much.  Back to 1 up.  Win on 10 to 2 up and a series of halves until the 14th when Charlotte Eagled the hole against a Birdie.  Birdie 4's on the 15th and then halves in Par on the 16th left Charlotte gaining the first win of the afternoon, with 4 Birdies and 1 Eagle - some play.

Tracy Atkin was 2nd off and she again started well.  On the 1st they both had Birdies, then went 1 down on the 2nd, pulling back on the 3rd with Birdie. By the 4th they were All Square and then on 6th another Birdie when she chipped in.  On 9th another win for Tracy followed on 12th with a conceded Birdie - 3 up at this stage.  2 further halves to Par and then Birdies for both players and then to the 15th when a fantastic shot through the narrow entrance landed not far from the pin and the game was won by yet another Birdie.  My was Tracy on form this afternoon and great fun to watch the Birdie Fest!!

Then came Kelly who was soon 2 up after 6 holes having scored 2 Birdies!  7 was also won this time to Par, and 2 losses when on the 9th she had a lost ball - a little galling for her when the ball spotter had moved position!  She won the 12th to Par, halved the next 3 holes to Par - 2 up.  Then things went a little wrong and Kelly lost the final 3 holes, thus losing the match by 1 hole on the 18th.

My these girls were playing well this afternoon!  Perhaps we could record our first win of the week!

Hannah, who had played so well all week without a break started as she meant to go on with a Birdie on 1st.  All Square by the 4th, she then went 2 down by par 5, 6th remaining at this level until the turn.  She won the 10th and drew All Square on 12th remaining at this until the 17th which she won and then again on the 18th, thus winning her game by 2 holes.

Charlotte Priddle was on her first outing of the week and again she started so well with a conceded Birdie on the 1st.  By the 5th she was 2 up, losing the 6th when her opponent sank a long putt.  She remained at 1 up until the turn when she sank a long putt on the 9th for a half.  On the 11th, Par 5, after hitting a superb drive, she won the hole which she did again on the short Par 3, 13th,  Now she was 3 up.  Lost the 14th, won the long 15th and eventually closed the game on 16, when she had a difficult downhill chip and then sank a 15 ft putt.  Final score was 3 and 2

This was the win Warwickshire needed as it meant that we had beaten Berkshire by 5 games to 4 - such jubilation and at last Karen was smiling!

Lisa brought up the rear and we were hoping that we could make it 5 wins this afternoon.  This however did not happen even though the game went all the way to the 18th.  Both players had played some fantastic golf and by the 14th they were All Square.  They halved the next 3 holes to Par, but Lisa lost the final hole due to tee shot that went left into rough.  Both parties commented that this match should have been halved as it had been so close all round.

What a boost to the confidence of the Captain Karen and Team members.  Now they need to do it again tomorrow when they play Northampton.

 DAY 2 - Tuesday 24th June

The sun was a little slower to come out this morning but come out it did and we were in for yet another good day, at least weather wise.  Buckinghamshire were our opponents today and once again Warwickshire were last on the tee, starting at 9.30 a.m.

Plenty of support today as spectators from Nuneaton GC and a minibus with 12 Olton lady members arrived plus the designated afternoon caddies, so there were high expectations

Pairings in the morning Foursomes were Charlotte Hartshorn with Katrina Gani, Lisa Barton with new young 14 year old, Emily Price and Claire Howells with Hannah Coles.

Katrina and Charlotte started apace and were 3 up after 4 holes, halved the 5th and then went back to 2 up after 6 holes.  On 7th fairway an incident when Katrina had a nose bleed, taking some time before she could continue.  The four following were called through whilst she recovered and felt able to continue.  Charlotte came to the rescue though, sinking a longhish putt for a win to go back to 3 up.  Great tee shot from Katrina on 8 showed there was no lasting ill effects and this match entranced those watching with some fantastic play.  Never down all round our girls eventually won the game on the 17th, 2 and 1.

Experience and youth were the order of play in game two with Lisa and Emily playing some stunning golf throughout.  Even so they were 3 down after 9 holes!  Pulling back to 2 down on 14, this remained the score until 16, when this was won to a Par 3, after Emily had hit a fantastic tee shot to the green.  17th was halved in pars and on the 18th tee, the Warwickshire pair needed a win to halve the game.  Unfortunately, they only managed to halve the hole in Par and thus lost the match by 1 hole - a ding dong match.

Final pairing of Claire and Hannah lost the 1st, won back the 2nd and by the 4th were 1 up. All Square after 5 they then lost holes and were 2 down after 9.  It was an up and down match with holes changing hands frequently, eventually losing the game by 3 and 2.

Karen Hearn and Team Manager, Lisa Barton's choice for the afternoon Singles games included: Claire Howells, Katrina Gani, Tracy Atkin, Emily Price, Hannah Coles and Charlotte Hartshorn.

Instructions from the Captain were for the afternoon Singles to produce 4 wins and this is what unfolded.

Claire out first was shocked to lose 1st to a Birdie and remained 1 down until the 4th when she hit a terrific bunker shot and sank the putt for a win. Next hole she lost to a Birdie and then very steady play from both but after the 9th, Claire was 2 down. Halving holes 10 and 11, Claire then lost the par 5, 12th to a Par.  She remained at 3 down until the 15th which she also lost and this was the end of the match, with a loss of 4 and 3.

Katrina came out of the blocks really fast this afternoon, winning holes 1 and 2, losing 3 and then winning 4 and 5 with a sandy Par.  By the 8th, she was 5 up and playing really well.  With halves on 9 and 10, her opponent then decided that it was time to make a comeback which she did by winning the next 4 holes.  Katrina was made of sturdy stuff and won the next 2 holes, winning her match 3 and 2.  Once again, a really good performance.

In game 3, Tracy lost the 1st, won the 2nd, lost the 3rd to a Birdie and remained 1 down until 5th.  She then lost the next 3 holes with 2 Birdies scored by her opponent - 4 down.  Playing very good golf, both players scoring 3 Pars and 1 Birdie.  She managed to salvage 1 more hole on 14 by scoring a Birdie 4, however immediately lost the 15th to a Birdie, thus losing her match by 4 and 3.  As her caddy said afterwards, Tracy's opponent had a 'magic putter' this afternoon!

Young Emily Price was next out and immediately won the first hole, halved the next 2, lost the 4th, halved 2 more and then lost hole 7 to a Birdie.  A great scrambled half on hole 8 followed by a win on 9 brought her back to All Square.  Then trouble struck with yet another injury to a Warwickshire player, this time with Emily having a very stiff neck and shoulders, making it difficult to swing and she quickly lost the next 3 holes.  She did however hang on with halves from 13 to 16, but by this time she was 3 down and thus lost her match.

Hannah's match was truly a very close affair with nothing in it between the two for most of the round. Losing the 1st, then halving 2 and 3 she then lost 4 to go 2 down.  However a win on 6 and 8 brought her back to All Square.  She then lost the 11th, won 12, lost 13, halved 14 with both scoring Birdie 4's.  On hole 16, Hannah won the hole with a Birdie 2 - All Square.  With a Par 4 on 18, Hannah just scraped home with a win of 1 up.

Charlotte brought up the rear and was on good form from the start, winning the 1st.  However she lost the 2nd and 4th with a very difficult bunker shot remaining in the bunker first time.  She then upped her game, winning the next 4 holes to be 3 up by the 9th.  Tree trouble then ensued on next holes resulting in 3 losses to go back to All Square.  4 halves from 13 to 16 inclusive were to Par but then she lost the 17th to a Birdie.  Try as she might, she could only manage a half on 18 and lost by 1 hole.

Such good golf played all day gave a poor return for all the efforts made with Warwickshire losing once again 6 matches to 3.  If we are going to win this week, more putts will have to drop!

DAY 1 - Monday 23rd June

Here we are at Northampton Golf Club in Harlestone and it is hot, hot, hot!!!  Matches take place from Monday to Friday, with 3 Foursomes and 6 Singles each day.  On Day 1, the morning rounds saw Warwickshire drawn against Oxfordshire with the start time being 9.30 a.m.

Expectations were high, even though there were only seven of the team here and available.  The two younger members - Katrina Gani and Emily Price had qualified for the English Schools Championship being played today at Enfield Golf Club, and are due to arrive tonight.

Pairings for the morning Foursomes were Claire Howells with Charlotte Hartshorn, Lisa Barton with Rachel Rusted and Hannah Coles with Kelly Knight and on paper these pairings looked strong.  What unfolded however, was not in the plan!!

Claire and Charlotte were one down after 4 holes and after halves on 5 and 6 and a win on hole 7, pulled back to All Square, which was still the situation after 14 holes.  The opposition then came back positively, finishing the game on the 16th hole with a loss to the Warwickshire pairing of 3 and 2.  A really good match with at least three holes being halved in birdies.

Match 2 saw steady progress between both sides but somehow more putts dropped for the Oxfordshire pairing, with Rachel and Lisa 2 down after 6 holes.  Rachel had a problem with her back though, when her back started to react to a previous injury, making swinging the golf club quite difficult.  However she battled on and by the 15th they were only 1 down, having won that hole with a great long putt by Lisa.  The 16th, Par 3 went to Oxfordshire, making the score 2 down and 2 to play.  Lisa and Rachel halved the 17th, which resulted in them losing the game, 2 and 1.

Kelly and Hannah parred the first when Kelly holed a very confident looking putt but then they had great difficulty with putts on the 2nd tiered green, losing the hole.  All Square after 5 holes, they went 3 down at the turn.  A further loss saw them 4 down after the 12th, with them eventually losing the game 6 and 5.  Putting was just so difficult was the comment from our pair.

Not the first morning results our Captain, Karen Hearn had been hoping for!!

They set off for the afternoon Singles in very hot sun, but by 4.10 p.m. the Claxon went off due to thunder overhead, followed by rain and they were all called in for 30 minutes.  At least the air had cleared a little!

Afternoon Singles matches were: Charlotte Hartshorn, Claire Howells, newly returned to County Golf, the extremely experienced Tracy Atkin, Kelly Knight, Hannah Coles and Lisa Barton.

Charlotte was drawn against an opponent who was on absolutely top form, winning the top match by 8 and 7.  The results seems to be very one sided, but on reflection, Charlotte was only 1 over par after the 11th whilst her opponent was 6 under!!  I doubt that many could have beaten that.

2nd out was Claire who also had quite a battle with her fortunately coming out on top by winning 2 and 1.  Halves were gained on first 3 holes but then Claire went 1 down to a par on 4th hole.  Pulling back on Hole 6 she held the score at that until losing out on the 9th.  Par 4 made it All Square on 10 but then she lost 11th which made her 1 down which she held back for the next 4 holes.  Scoring an excellent Birdie on 15th, she levelled the match and then won the final 2 holes to finally win 2 and 1 - an excellent round and Warwickshire's first win of the day.

Tracy Atkin also had a really close match going all the way to the 18th. Loss on the 2nd, win on 3rd and 4th, then followed by 2 losses on 7th and 8th to go 1 down.  All Square on 10th and then a Birdie on 11th, she was one up.  After that, she lost the 12th with a Bogey 6, and by 15th she was 1 down.  Two pars followed and then on 18th another half gained meant that Tracy had lost her match by 1 down.

Kelly on the other hand seemed to struggle this afternoon going quickly 3 down after 4 holes.  By the 7th she had pulled 2 back but by the turn she was 2 down.  She recovered slightly with a Birdie on 14th to get back to 2 down but then lost the next 2 holes to lose the game 4 and 2.

Number 5 out was Hannah who by the 8th hole was All Square but by 10th had gone 2 ahead. She lost the next hole by playing the wrong ball but then won the 12th, keeping ahead by 2 until the short 16th, which she lost to par. Halving the final 2 holes meant that Hannah won by just 1 hole, a really good result.

Final Singles match of the day had Lisa Barton bring up the rear and what a good job she did.  All Square after the 5th hole which she held until the 8th hole which she won - 1 up.  2 up after 10, she then went 3 up on 15th with a superb Birdie, losing the next hole to Bogey but then scoring an excellent Par on the short 16th, she finally won her match 3 and 2.

The Warwickshire team of the day had played some excellent golf without the results, finishing the day losing to Oxfordshire 6 games to 3.  Tomorrow is another day with the opponents being Buckinghamshire and the team are feeling quite positive.
